Katriel's Life Steps Part 3
Katriel's experience in the Dominican Republic.
In 2012 Katriel, just 22 years old, moved to the Dominican Republic for a work contract. It was a project in which they would open a restaurant and he would be the restaurant's chef. Once again, he was alone in an unknown country and far from his affections. When he arrived in the city, the restaurant was under construction, so Katriel took advantage of his time to study through youtube and took courses on the internet.
The owners of the restaurant gave Katriel an apartment to live in, which was unfurnished; it only had a bed and a kitchen. And they asked him to start cooking empanadas to sell while the project was being developed. They gave him a bicycle for delivery and moved the restaurant's oven to his apartment.
During his stay in the Dominican Republic, he met an Argentinean and became friends with him. This friend introduced Katriel to a woman who used to work in the most famous radio station in the Dominican Republic. She proposed that he appear on the radio in a cooking and recipes section, and Katriel accepted.
But problems did not take long to arrive, because after 3 months, the owner of the restaurant that had hired him, told him that he had to fire him. His excuse was that he was not as old as he had imagined from all the experience he had on his resume.
Then Katriel was saddened. It was very difficult to think what he could do from now on, in a country that was not his own. He started to send messages to people he had met, saying that he was looking for a job.
The manager of the radio station told him that she knew the owner of a super high-end restaurant, called Rosalinda. She got him the interview and that same day he was interviewed. In less than 24 hours Katriel had a job again. He was in charge of the hot kitchen, handling the pizzas, pasta, meats, etc. They were putting out 400 dishes a day, and he was working with highly skilled people. It was a pleasant experience and great learning experience.
Since he no longer had a place to live, his Argentine friends invited him to live with them. And positive things began to emerge. Katriel began to walk, go to the beach, go out to parties, and have a good time.
The warmth of the people had captivated him. The treats they had with him made him feel at home. Later his brother and mother came to visit him and to share the beautiful experience he was living.
And after a year and a half, he began to feel the desire to look for a new adventure. His head began to imagine new destinations and projects. So he stopped working at "Rosalinda" and said goodbye to everyone in the Dominican Republic. He left again for the United States, where a new and exciting proposal awaited him. A call that surprised him completely. It involved a job in Dubai, one of the most luxurious cities in the world. Katriel's ceilings were getting higher and higher.
